Alex Gotch - Director

Alex Gotch is a Movement Director and Stage Director for Opera and Theatre. 

​

He is a movement specialist who studied at London Contemporary Dance School, and later completed an MFA in Movement Direction and Teaching at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. As a Director he is passionate about bringing dynamic storytelling to the stage, and empowering artists to embody their full potential.  

 

As Assistant Director  his credits include The Pilgrim’s Progress (British Youth Opera) and The Coronation of Poppea (English Touring Opera). As a performer he has worked most recently at the Royal Opera House for their productions of Eugene Onegin, Hansel & Gretel, and Festen. He has worked as associate director with English Touring Opera, Hampstead Garden Opera and Garsington Opera, among others, and was a semi-finalist in the European Opera-directing Prize 2025.

 

He specialises in the creation of movement with music, has a deep knowledge of Social, Folk and Historical dances, and can integrate stage combat seamlessly into broader storytelling.
